A Victorian Royal Navy Silver Plated Presentation Compass for HMS Frolic, Dated 1888.

HMS Frolic, a composite screw gunboat, was launched in 1872. In 1888 she became the headquarters and drill ship of the Royal Navy Artillery Volunteers and was moored on the River Thames, close to Somerset House. She became a Coastguard vessel from 1893 until 1908. The compass was awarded as first prize for junior seamanship.

In very good condition with most of the exterior silver plate faded. The compass is in working order.

Approximate weight is 132 grams.

Approximate closed dimensions are 7.8 cm length (including loop), 5.5 cm width and 1.7 cm depth.
