Georgian, George III, Irish silver cup and cover with twin, leaf capped, scroll handles. The domed cover features bright cut and prick work detail as well as a flame finial. The body features a reeded girdle and two vacant cartouches. The cup sits on a spreading pedestal foot. One side features an armorial with the motto FIDELITATE ET FORTITUDINE. It relates to the Hungarian Princely/Comital family of Batthyany.

Condition is very good with light surface wear commensurate with age. There has been an erasure to one cartouche and this is more visible to the interior where some splitting is visible. This split does not show on the front of the cup.

Hallmarked to the main body for Dublin 1772 by Charles Townsend & Michael Cormick. The cover is not hallmarked. There is a retail stamp to the underside for Lambert of Coventry Street, London. This will have been when the cup was resold, as it did not open until 1803.

Approximate total weight is 2.345 kilos or 75 troy ounces.

Approximate dimensions are 41 cm height, 30 cm handle to handle length and 18 cm depth.
