A cased set of four silver place, or menu, card holders depicting a fish within a shield on an octagonal base. The place card holders sit within their original red tooled leather case, fitted with a cream satin and velvet interior. The retailer was R. S. Rowell of Oxford (established 1797 and still a going concern). The retailer's name is marked inside the case and stamped on the base of each piece.
Each place card holder is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham by John William Barrett. All are hallmarked in three places with differing date letters for 1908, 1910 & 1911. Each piece features a design registration number for 1906.
The silver condition is excellent with light surface wear commensurate with age. The case is in good condition, but does not fasten shut.
Approximate silver weight is 90 grams or 2.8 troy ounces.

Approximate dimensions of each holder is 3.4 cm base diameter and 2.8 cm height.
Approximate case dimensions are 18.7 cm length, 6.3 cm width and 4.2 cm height.
