Medal for Coronation of Emperor Napoleon I as King of Italy in Milan 23rd May 1805 . The obverse with Napoleon in relief with laureate head right. The reverse with the crown of Lombardy. Medallist for the obverse is Bertrand Andrieu, with Dominique Vivant Denon as Director. Medallist for the reverse is Louis Jaley, with Denon as Director again.
The Coronation was planned for 23rd May, but actually took place on 26th May.
Wear and misshapen to the outer rim. Plug inserted into the outer rim at the top of the medal, probably sealing where a suspension ring was once located. Moderate to high surface wear, as shown in the photographs.
