Large Mid Victorian Silver Plated Desk Standish of Harrogate & Philanthropic Interest. Features two diamond cut glass inkwells and a central compartment with a cherub cradling a goose as the cover. The base is of oval form and similar in size to a salver. It is raised on four bun feet. The raised border with engraved detail. Inscription within a cartouche to one side and a vacant cartouche to the other side.

The inscription relates to a James Powell for his valuable services as guardian of the poor for the township of Harrogate in 1865.

In excellent condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. One chip to the base of one cut glass inkwell. No loss of silver plate and no dents or creases.

Approximate dimensions are 33 cm length, 25.5 cm width and 12 cm height.

Approximate weight is 1.375 kilos.
