The holder at the time of assay, in 1825, was Rear-Admiral William Carnegie, 7th Earl of Northesk. He served in the American Revolutionary War, French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, where he was 3rd in command at the Battle of Trafalgar on HMS Britannia. This is the remodelled crest associated with the arms of the Carnegie family, Earls of Northesk.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBy October 1805 Carnegie was third in command of the Mediterranean Fleet, commanded by Vice-Admiral\u003cspan\u003e Lord Nelson.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eThe Combined Fleet sailed on 18 October and the British Fleet came up with them on 21 October to fight what would become the\u003cspan\u003e Battle of Trafalgar. \u003c\/span\u003eNelson looked to pierce the combined fleet with two columns and for this purpose\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eBritannia\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ewas in the\u003cspan\u003e windward \u003c\/span\u003ecolumn led by Nelson in HMS VIctory.  HMS \u003csup class=\"reference\" id=\"cite_ref-Breen1_3-23\"\u003e\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003ci\u003eBritannia\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ewas a slow ship that did not sail well, and Nelson ordered Carnegie to 'assume a station as most convenient' during the attack, allowing him the best chance to reach the battle on time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHallmarked to the body and cover for London 1825 by George Burrows II.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproximate weight is 376 grams or 12.0 troy ounces. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproximate dimensions are 22 cm handle to spout end length, 14 cm width and 10 cm height.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn good condition with age related surface wear.
