Field Marshal August Graf Neithardt von Gneisenau of Prussia Portrait Roundel. Gneisenau (1760 - 1831) fought in the American Revolutionary War as a mercenary on the British side. During the Napoleonic Wars he fought at Saalfeld, Jena and Waterloo, where he was involved in the capture of Napoleon's cariage. He was also noted for reforming the Prussian military and for his service in the War of Liberation (War of the Sixth Coalition).
Marked to the reverse for Meissen and State Museums of Berlin, Capital of the German Democratic Republic (former East Germany).
