General Desaix (Louis Charles Antoine Desaix de Veygoux, 1768 –1800) Silvered Metal Portrait Profile Plaque. Originally produced in bronze from the foundry of Barbier & Daubrée in 1848. The plaque was made to commemorate the 1848 inauguration of the bronze statue of General Desaix, by Charles-Francois Leboeuf dit Nanteuil at Place de Jaude in Clermont-Ferrand. This monument pays tribute to General Desaix, who was born in the region and was one of the most notable Generals of the French Revolutionary Wars. He served under Napoleon and distinguished himself in the Egyptian Campaign and Battle of Marengo, where he was killed at the moment of victory by a musket ball.

Approximate diameter is 16 cm.

Approximate weight is 165 grams.

In good condition with fine detail. Possible nose strengthening to the rear, maybe from casting. This plaque would appear to be second half 19th century.
