Georgian, George II, Silver Inkstand. Of rectangular form with a raised gadrooned border. Features two pen recesses, two ink bottles and one pounce/sander bottle.
The underside of the inkstand is hallmarked for London 1759 by William Robertson. The silver openwork bottle holders are part hallmarked with the lion passant and maker's mark. The bottle collars and caps are not hallmarked (picture 13). The bottles would appear to be original, as each corner is cut to fit into the bottle holder (pictures 11 and 12).
In very good condition with moderate surface wear commensurate with age and use. The glass bottles are in very good order without losses. One bottle cap has a slight opening to the seam (pictures 6 and 8), but this is stable and does not require attention. Free of dents and creases.
Approximate hallmarked silver weight is 566 grams, or 18.1 troy ounces.
Approximate total weight is 1.26 kilos.
Approximate dimensions are 27 cm length, 16 cm width and 7.5 cm height.
