HMS Hood Gunroom Officers Silver Presentation Bowl. Of decagon form with an ornate border rim.
Commissioned in 1920 as an Admiral Class Battleship. During 1923 and 1924 HMS Hood and HMS Repulse, with the Special Service Squadron, sailed around the world on The Empire Cruise. In May 1941 HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales were ordered to intercept the German battleship Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prince Eugen. On 24th May 1941, during The Battle of the Denmark Strait, a shell from Bismarck struck the ammunition magazines of HMS Hood. She sank within three minutes and 1415 men lost their lives, with only 3 survivors. This remains the biggest single loss of life in Royal Navy history.
