A George IV Silver Military Presentation Table Snuff Box. The Cover Detailed with Deer, in Relief. The Interior with Inscription, 'Lieutenant Borthwick 12th Regiment', relating to Lieutenant John Borthwick, 12th Regiment of Foot, with the names of fellow officers.

Raised in 1685 as the Duke of Norfolk's Regiment of Foot to suppress the Monmouth Rebellion. The Regiment fought for William III against James in Ireland at the 1690 Battle of the Boyne. In 1751 it was renamed as the 12th Regiment of Foot and subsequently fought in the Seven Years War. In 1782 it was given its county association, becoming known as the 12th (East Suffolk) Regiment of Foot. In the late 18th century the Regiment saw action in India and the West Indies. Following the Napoleonic Wars, the Regiment spent several years rotating between England and Ireland, along with further postings on Mauritius and Gibraltar. The Regiment achieved numerous battle honours during World War One.

Of rectangular form, with incurved corners and engine turned detail. The cover rim with applied foliate thumb grip and the cover with a woodland relief panel.

In good condition with age related wear to the engine turned detail. Wear to the gilt interior and some loss of definition to the relief panel.

Hallmarked for London 1826 by John Jones III.
