
Vice-Admiral Sir Charles Vinicombe Penrose, KCB GCMG (1759 - 1830) Carnelian Inset Unmarked Gold Fob Seal. A Royal Navy Officer who Commanded Vessels During the Fourth Anglo Dutch, French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
Charles Penrose entered the Royal Navy in 1775 and saw action at the 1781 Battle of Dogger Bank, during the Fourth Anglo - Dutch War. He was present at the 1793 capture of Martinique during the West Indian Campaign of the French Revolutionary Wars. In 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars, he commanded a small squadron of ships from HMS Porcupine. In 1814 he was appointed Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean Fleet. In 1819 he retired from active service as a Rear Admiral and in 1821 was appointed Vice Admiral.
