A William III Britannia silver twin handled porringer of circular form with part fluted detail and scroll handles. Raised on a part fluted circular foot. One side features the initials B over LC in an oval cartouche with scroll mantling. The other side has a later military presentation inscription to "Lt Col. Marriott M.V.O.  D.S.O and the officers of the 1st Batallion Norfolk Regiment from Captain E. Pennell Elmhirst, May 30 1911".

Lt. Col. John Marriott, joined the Norfolk Regiment in 1883 and was promoted to Captain in1890. He was captured by brigands in Asia Minor in October 1896, who demanded a ransom of £16,000, but was released by Turkish troops. He served in the South African War, 1900-2 and was mentioned in Despatches. He received the Queen's Medal with three clasps; the King's Medal with two clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order. He was promoted Major in 1904, and was specially employed on the Military Survey and Reconnaissance of Manaqualand and Bechuanaland, South Africa in 1907. He became Lieutenant Colonel 12 January 1909 and was created an MVO in 1909. Promoted Colonel 30 October 1912. He was Brigade Commander, Surrey Infantry Brigade, from 1913, and during the Great War he commanded brigades. He was created a CBE in 1919, and retired from the Staff with the honorary rank of Brigadier General 11 April 1919. General Marriott was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and of the Royal Zoological Society, and was an authority on big game. 

Captain Edward Pennell Elmhirst served in China and Japan with 9th Foot, 1864-1868. Musketry Instructor to same, 1871-1874. Aide-de-camp to General C. Elmhirst at Malta and Bangalore, 1874-1878.
Adjutant of Artists’ Volunteer Corps, 1878-1882. Master and Huntsman Neilgherry Hounds, 1875-1877. Woodland-Pytchley Hounds, 1880-1881.
Served in South Africa, 1899-1900 (medal with two clasps). Late 9th Norfolk Regiment. He was also an author of hunting books.

Hallmarked to the body for London 1701 by William Denney. William Denney's mark is also applied to each handle.

Condition is very good with no obvious dents or creases. There is moderate surface wear commensurate with age. Traces of old splits inside the top rim at the handle join. These look as though they have had a very good quality silver repair. Slightly misshapen rims. 

Approximate weight is 610 grams or 19.6 troy ounces.

Approximate dimensions are 24 cm handle to handle length, 14 cm height and 14 cm depth.
