Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate, bale handle cake basket. Circa 1770 - 1800. Of navette shape with a reeded handle containing an oval cartouche. The body with pierced detail and a reeded border. The base of the basket features an oval area of bright cut and prick work detail in the form of a vacant cartouche. The oval foot features reeded and pierced detail.
In excellent order with moderate surface wear and minor copper bleed. Possible traces of old solder repair to the pivots of the bale handle, which operates as it should. A good sturdy basket, ready for use.
Approximate weight is 780 grams.
Approximate dimensions are 37.5 cm length, 25 cm width and 28 cm height (with the handle raised- 13.5 cm without being raised).
