Pair of Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate candlesticks, with silver drip trays, circa 1770. The candlesticks are wrythen fluted at the base of the stem and sit on gadrooned square bases.

Condition is very good with moderate surface wear and a few small surface dints and pressure marks. One of the candlesticks has had some plaster of Paris put into the top, but this will not affect use. The drip trays are not origina, slightly misshapen and do not quite sit fully flush in the top of the candlesticks. Areas of copper bleed.

The drip trays (sconces) are slightly later and date to between 1793 and 1801. Both are hallmarked as sterling silver and are by John Green, Roberts, Mosley & Co of Sheffield.

This pair are from the collection of Gordon Crosskey, author of "Old Sheffield Plate, A History of the 18th Century Plated Trade".

Approximate weight for the pair is 1.7 kilos.

Approximate dimensions of one are 27 cm height and 12 cm base length.
