George V Silver Cigarette Box with Cypher for Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Fitted with a wooden interior and leather covered filled base.

Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (1900 – 1979), was known until 1917 as Prince Louis of Battenberg and then, until 1946, as Lord Louis Mountbatten. In 1947 he became known as Viscount Mountbatten of Burma. He was a member of the Royal family and a Royal Navy Officer. He was a maternal uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. During the Second World War he was Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia Command. He was the last Viceroy of India and in 1979 was assassinated by the IRA in Ireland.

Rubbed hallmarks to the base and cover for London 1912 by  the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. Also features their Regent Street retail stamp and a design registration number for 1909.

In very good condition with moderate surface wear commensurate with age. The cover does not close fully shut on the right side (when viewed from the front). Some light pressure marks and small dints to the silver sides.

Approximate weight is 250 grams.
