Victorian silver plated soup tureen. Of compressed oval form with twin scroll, acanthus capped, handles. The domed cover features a pomegranate finial with stalk and leaf.

Crested to the body and cover for the Forbes family. It is highly likely that this tureen was in the possession of Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Forbes (1798 - 1877). In 1861 he succeeded to the estate of Rothienorman in the County of Aberdeenshire and took the name of Leslie, upon the death of the last surving family member with that name. He served as a Colonel in the 78th Highlanders. A heraldry report accompanies this item.

Marked to the underside for Elkington, Mason & Co. Ltd 1856.

In excellent order with light surface wear, commensurate with age and for its use as a serving tureen. Most notable wear is to the interior, where the ladle would have scraped the base.

Approximate weight is 1.763 kilos.

Approximate dimensions are 35 cm length, 19.5 cm width and 21 cm height.
