Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate Armorial Entree Dish & Cover, circa 1780 - 1800. Of twin handled oval form and lightweight construction. The two halves fix firmly together and it is possible that this was for campaign, or travel, use . The cover can be used as a further serving dish.
The armorial to the dish and cover are the arms of Butler-Cooper. This dish can be attributed to The Honourable Pierce Butler-Cooper (1750 - 1826). He was the son of the Earl of Carrick & Lady Juliana Boyle. He served as an MP for three Irish constituencies. A detailed heraldry report accompanies this item.
In excellent order with light surface wear commensurate with age. Areas of very light copper bleed to the borders and the armorial. Light scratches and scuff marks.
