A rare and complete 18th Century silver cutlery set.
Georgian, George III, Crested Silver Fruit or Dessert Knives & Forks for Twelve Persons. Each piece is crested with a boar's head emerging from a coronet. The knife blades feature a band of bright cut decoration.
Hallmarked for London 1799 by William Abdy II.The London town mark does not appear, but this is normal for London cutlery of the period. The hallmarks and in particular the makers marks are quite rubbed and in some instances rubbed out. The knife blades, fork stems/tines and all of the filled handles are hallmarked silver. All of the hallmarks have been photographed to assist.
In excellent order with all of the blades and stems held firmly in their handle sockets. The blades and tines are in very good order. There will be the occasional light pressure mark to the handles.
Approximate total weight is 554 grams (277 grams for the forks and 277 grams for the knives!)
Approximate knife dimensions are 15.7 cm length and 1.2 cm blade width.
Approximate fork dimensions are 14.5 cm length and 1.2 cm tine width.
