Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate Argyle, circa 1780. This argyle was used as a gravy server and a separate lower compartment could be filled with hot water to keep the gravy warm. Of bulbous baluster form with a wide spreading circular foot. Features a long and narrow S shaped spout, hinged cover to hot water compartment, wicker covered handle and domed pull off cover with orb finial.

In excellent condition with minimal wear to the silver layer. Light surface wear commensurate with age. The wicker is in very good order. Moderate wear to the hinge for the water filling compartment.

Approximate weight is 526 grams.

Approximate dimensions are 16 cm height, 16 cm spout to base rim length and 9.5 cm base diameter.
