Georgian, early George III, silver coffee pot of baluster form on a spreading circular base. Features an armorial with the motto "PROMPTUS ET FIDELIS" (READY AND FAITHFUL). The domed cover with a flame finial.

The purchaser will receive a detailed report concerning this armorial that relates to the arms of Carruthers of Holmains. This coffee pot almost certainly belonged to John Carruthers of Holmains. He was the 12th Laird of Holmains and the 8th feudal Baron of Holmains.

In excellent order with moderate surface wear and very light pressure marks commensurate with a 259 year old item. There is no clouding of the silver from firescale. The base of the handle has a strengthening plate and this repair can also be seen on the interior (last photo). There is a slight distortion to the inside rim of the cover and the finial is ever so slightly to one side. The coffee pot does not leak and holds about 600 ml.

Hallmarked for London 1763 by William Grundy. The hallmarks are quite rubbed and the makers mark is only visible on the inside rim of the cover.

Approximate weight is 499 grams or 16 troy ounces.

Approximate dimensions are 21.5 cm height, 19 cm length and 9 cm depth.
