A William IV Silver Inkstand with Presentation Inscription. The inkstand is raised on four ornate bracket feet with a foliate and scroll border. There are two cut glass ink bottles, a wafer box, taperstick holder and snuffer.

The inscription is in Latin and reads:

'V.R. Edvardo Wickham M A, in schola Wiccamica, prope decem annos adjutors suo, fideli officioso, David Williams, Die 14th Aprilis A S 1833'.

This roughly translates to:

Edward Wickham MA, at the Winchester College, Almost ten years his Assistant, faithful & dutiful to David Williams, the 14th April AD 1833.

David Williams (1786 - 1860) was a Master of Winchester College, Warden of New College, Oxford (1840 - 1860) and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University (1856 - 1858).

Hallmarked for London 1831 by Joseph Angell I & John Angell I. The bottle caps, holders, collars, wafer box holder, cover and snuffer are all hallmarked with matching marks.

Approximare silver weight is 570 grams or 18.3 troy ounces.

Approximate total weight is 752 grams.

Approximate dimensions are 24.5 cm length, 16 cm width and 12 cm height.

In very good condition with no silver damage, or repairs. One chip to the base of one glass bottle, as shown in the last photo.
