A Set of Eight George III Silver Dinner Plates with the Arms of Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey & 2nd Earl of Uxbridge (1769 - 1854).

The engraved armorial is after Lord Anglesey was appointed Knight of the Garter in 1818. Perhaps best known for his distinguished service at the Battle of Waterloo, where he was placed in command of the united British, Belgian and Hanoverian cavalry under Wellington. He led the Heavy Cavalry charge against Comte D'Erlon's Column and at the end of the battle he lost a leg to a cannonball. After the battle he was created Marquess of Anglesey and, later, Knight of the Garter, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland and Master-General of the Ordnance. A professional heraldry report accompanies this item.

All are hallmarked for London 1769 by Francis Butty & Nicholas Dumee. The maker's mark is very rubbed and hardly visible on two of the plates. All hallmarks are photographed.

In very good condition with high surface wear, scratches and minor indentations. Scratch weights to the reverse. The plates are of shaped circular form with gadrooned borders.

Approximate weight of all eight plates is 4.131 kilos or 132 troy ounces. 

Approximate dimensions of one plate are 24 cm diameter and 2 cm depth.
