Magnificent Silver Plated & Cut Glass Nelson's Column Four Branch Centrepiece. The base with a recumbent lion to each of the four arms, supported by outswept ornate bracket feet with scroll, beaded and leaf detail. The column rises from a fluted section to four classical masks framed between beaded and wheatsheaf borders. The reeded column then rises to four branches with leaf and mythical beast detail terminating in cups supporting four later cut glass dishes. Rising further is a cup supporting a later large and matching cut glass bowl. Above this Nelson stands proud atop a coiled rope in full naval uniform.
The centrepiece is unmarked, but has all the appearances of an Elkington piece. It dates to around the late 19th, or early 20th Century and may well have been produced as a 100 year anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
In excellent condition with no loss of silver plate and no damage to the cut glass. Some moderate wear and light pressure marks to the reeded column.
