An Old Sheffield Plate meat dome of lobed form and silver plated meat dish. The dome with silver marital arms of Stephenson & Sanderson, for Robert Stephenson & Frances Sanderson. The silver handle in the form of the crest for Stephenson; a cubit arm with the hand holding a roll of paper.

Robert Stephenson (1803 - 1859), was a renowned civil & mechanical engineer. Builder of the early locomotive Rocket in 1829. Robert also designed bridges; Royal Border Bridge & High Level Bridge  on the East Coast Main Line and the Britannia Bridge over the Menai Straits in Wales. He was regarded as the greatest engineer of the 19th Century and was later elected Member of Parliament for Whitby. He was laid to rest in Westminster Abbey. A heraldry report accompanies this item.

The other side of the dome features a silver badge for The Royal Berkshire Regiment (Princess Charlotte of Wales's).

The crest shaped handle is hallmarked for London 1839 by Benjamin Smith III. The armorial appears to be hallmarked by Benjamin Smith III, but the date letter is not visible.

The badge of The Royal Berkshire Regiment is hallmarked for Chester 1922 by F. J. Ross & Sons.

The meat dome is marked for T & J Creswick of Sheffield and would date to around 1830.

The meat plate is unmarked.

In excellent order with moderate surface wear and light scratches commensurate with age and for their use as serving and carving items.
