Victorian Silver Plated Covered Sugar Bowl with cypher for The 12th Madras Native Infantry, circa 1865. Of lobed blauster form with twin handles and a hinged cover with flower finial.

The Regimental badge to both sides shows the battle honour for Ava (1823 -1826) and Regiment MNI (Madras Native Infantry). The Regiment was raised in 1759 as an infantry batallion of the East India Company and became the 12th Madras Native Infantry in 1824. In 1903 the Regiment became part of The 72nd Punjab Regiment. During the First World War the Regiment was deployed to the North West Frontier. In 1922, the 12th Madras Native Infantry was re-designated as the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Punjab Regiment.

In excellent condition with moderate surface wear commensurate with age. Some play in the hinge. No loss of silver plate.
