1817 Death of Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales Medal Roundel. This is the obverse of the 1817 medal and shows a profile bust of Princess Charlotte wearing a crown of flowers. The text below the bust reads 'BORN JAN 7 1796 MARRIED MAY 2 1816'. The roundel is reeded to the border and a laurel wreath encloses the medal. The medal is signed Webb F for the medallist Thomas Webb.
Princess Charlotte Augusta was the only child of the future George IV (then Prince of Wales), dying in childbirth at the age of 21. Had she lived Princess Charlotte would have become Queen.She was very popular and the subject of widespread mourning in Britain.
In very good condition with a small loss to the rim, as per pictures 1 and 2.
