Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan (1731 - 1804) was a Scottish naval officer. Best known for the 1797 defeat of the Dutch fleet at Camperdown. The Battle of Camperdown was a major naval action fought off the Dutch coast between the British North Sea Fleet, under Admiral Duncan, and a Batavian (Dutch) Navy Fleet under Vice Admiral Jan de Winter on 11th October 1797. It was the most significant action between the British and Dutch during the French Revolutionary Wars and the British captured eleven Dutch ships. He saw action during the Seven Years War, American Revolutionary War and French Revolutionary Wars.
