A George III Old Sheffield Plate Rectangular Armorial Salver. Marital Arms for Lieutenant Colonel Henry Charles Fitzgerald, 33rd Regiment of Foot,  The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment.

Lt. Col. Fitzgerald fought at the Battle of Alma in 1854, holding the rank of Captain. His Father-in-Law was Colonel William Cuthbert Elphinstone-Holloway, Royal Engineers. He served in the Peninsula War at the Capture of Badajoz in 1812 and was mentioned in dispatches by the Duke of Wellington. The arms on this salver commemorate the marriage of Lt. Col. Henry Charles Fitzgerald and Amelia Augusta Elphinstone Holloway. A detailed heraldry report accompanies this item.

Of rectangular form with a gadrooned border and raised on four bun feet.

In good condition with areas of copper bleed. There has been a silver solder strengthening repair to the edge of the main surface area where it meets the raised border. Free of dents and creases.

Approximate weight is 778 grams.
