A Late 19th Century Patinated Spelter Relief Portrait Plaque of the Duke of Clarence in a turned wooden frame.

Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale (1864 - 1892) was the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, later Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Had he lived then the Duke of Clarence would have succeeded Edward VII to the throne. In 1891 he became engaged to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, who would later marry his brother George V and become Queen Mary. In 1892 he became ill during an influenza pandemic and died of pneumonia at Sandringham House.

In good condition with some losses to the rim of the wooden frame and high wear to the reverse. No damage to the relief plaque.

Approximately 17.5cm diameter.

Approximate weight is 217 grams.
