The sarcophagus rests in a circular open crypt, surrounded by twelve pillars depicting victories. Between the pillars are ten relief panels showing Napoleon's achievments. The soliders and horses above the crypt are Delannoy's depiction of Napoleon's Grand Army guarding him for eternity.
