German Medal, Made from French Cannon Captured During the Napoleonic Campaigns of 1814 and 1815. Issued in 1821 by Elector Wilhelm II. The medal was awarded to all combatants who fought and crossed the Rhine in 1814 and 1815.
The obverse with the iron cross and the years 1814 and 1815. Inscribed with the legend, 'Gott brach des feindes Macht und Hessen ward befreit' (God broke the enemy forces and Hesse was liberated).
The reverse with the initials of Kaiser Wilhelm II and an inscription, 'Seinen tapfern Hessen 1821' (His brave Hesse).
The rim inscribed, 'Aus Erobertem Geschutz' (from captured cannon).
Approximate weight is 13.6 grams.
Approximate diameter is 29 mm.
In fair condition with a hole at the top where the ball mount would have been.
