The French Revolutionary Wars & The Treaty of Amiens Pearlware Jug, circa 1802. The text around the neck reads 'Britania's Triumph on the Restoration of Peace Plenty attending the Blessing of Peace'. The transfer printed decoration depicts Britannia, riding in a lion-drawn carriage holding medallion portraits of George III ('George III For ever') and Napoleon Bonaparte ('Down with Bonaparte'). The other side of the jug with a depiction of Peace, seated under a tree.
The Peace, or Treaty, of Amiens was signed in March 1802 by France, Britain, Spain and the Netherlands to end the war with Revolutionary France. The peace lasted for only fourteen months until the Napoleonic Wars commenced in 1803.
In overall good display condtion with some restoration and hairline cracks. Free of losses and chips.
