Georgian, George II, Silver Inkstand. Of rectangular form and raised on four scrolled feet. The border with scroll and shell detail. The inkstand has three large white metal mounted glass bottles and an armorial.

The armorial is for the Leveson-Gower family. This inkstand is likely to have been in the possession of Granville Leveson-Gower (1721 - 1803). He became the 2nd Earl Gower in 1754 and was later created the Marquess of Stafford in 1786. This information is contained within a heraldry report, which accompanies this item.

Hallmarked to the underside of the inkstand for London 1750 by Edward Aldridge I.

In very good order with moderate to high surface wear commensurate with age. There are some surface pitting marks, but no dents or creases. The bottle holders, bottle collars and bottle covers are not hallmarked. One glass bottle has two cracks as shown in the last photo.

Approximate weight of hallmarked silver is 959 grams or 30.8 troy ounces.

Approximate total weight is 2.06 kilos.

Approximate dimensions are 32.5 cm length, 24 cm width and 9 cm height.
