Georgian, George III period, Old Sheffield Plate Inkstand, circa 1780 - 1800. Features two inkwells, a sealing wax holder and taperstick holder. The galleried inkstand is pierced with a beaded top rim and reeded base, as are the bottle holders. The taperstick holder can be removed to reveal a compartment for storing sealing wax. Raised on four claw and ball feet.
In excellent order with light surface wear, commensurate with age. A few spots of warm copper bleed. Slightly bumpy in one corner of the main surface, possibly from an earlier repair. The bottles are probably later replacements and the caps are a little loose fitting.
Approximate weight is 718 grams.
Approximate dimensions are 24 cm length, 12 cm width and 9 cm height.
