Joseph Boulderson (1764–1828) was the third son of the Captain of a Falmouth Packet Ship delivering mail to the West Indies and America. In 1792 he was appointed Captain of the Marquis of Lansdown which traded between London and Calcutta. Like the Captains of other East Indiamen Joseph Boulderson indulged in private trading, the profits of which were much greater than the wages paid to him as Captain. In 1804 he was appointed as the first superintendant of the brand new London Docks at Wapping.
