An Arts & Crafts Indian Colonial Silver Tankard. Later engraved 'Balmer Lawrie Polo Cup 1936'.

Balmer Lawrie was establised in Calcutta, in 1867, by two Scotsmen: George Stephen Balmer and Alexander Lawrie. The main business activity of the company was tea, trading and shipping. In 1936 the firm became a public limited company and in 1972 the company became a Government of India Enterprise. The colonial period headquarters building still stands in Kolkata. 

Marked as silver by Cooke & Kelvey, Calcutta.

In excellent condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. Free of dents, creases and repairs. Made from a good gauge of silver.

Approximate weight is 439 grams or 14.1 troy ounces.

Approximate capacity, full to the brim, is about 580 ml, so a pint tankard.

Approximate dimensions are 12.2 cm height, 13 cm handle to rim edge length and 8.7 cm top rim diameter.
