George V Replica of an Elizabethan English Silver Lidded Tankard. Of tapering cylindrical form upon a domed circular foot. The C scroll handle leading to a hinged domed lid raised by a cast putto mask and wing thumbpiece, all surmounted by a cylindrical finial with a fluted terrace and pyriform terminal. The body with two die-rolled and applied ovolo girdles, otherwise with flat chased strapwork motifs centred with rosettes, punched crescents, roundels, all reserved with matting. The lid and foot with embossed bouquets of fruit with shaped scroll forms reserved with matting. The handle with flat chased foliate scrolls and a gilded interior.

This example is a replica of the tankard of 1577 illustrated Davis, J. D. (1976), English Silver at Williamsburg. Williamsburg, Virginia: The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, p.64, fig.51.
