Queen Victoria's Own Madras Sappers and Miners, British Indian Army, Silver Plated Tankard. The tankard has a glass bottom and facsimile signatures, circa 1920 - 1940.
The Madras Sappers and Miners were part of the Indian Army Engineer Soldier Corps comprised of the three armies of the Presidencies. Originating from two companies of Pioneers raised in 1780 and called the 'Madras Pioneers'. Upon expansion they became the 'Corps of Madras Pioneers' but were renamed in 1831 as the 'Corps of Madras Sappers and Miners'. Their battle honours are extensive and include Mysore, Seringapatam, Egypt, China, Lucknow, The Boxer Rebellion, Afghanistan and both World Wars.
In very good condition with no loss of silver plate and no dents or creases. Moderate surface wear as per the photos.
