A very large and impressive Victorian silver plate on copper tankard. The hinged cover with a knopped and beaded finial, grape & vine leaf border. The body with low relief Neoclassical figures. An accanthus capped double scroll handle & raised on a circular foot.
This tankard is too large for a drinking vessel and is suitable for ceremonial, display or centrepiece purposes.
Marked to the underside of the base for John Grinsell & Sons of Birmingham and dating to around 1870 - 1890.
In exellent condition with very good definition of the relief detail. Warm copper bleed throughout. Free of dents, creases and repairs.
Approximate weight is 3.1 kilos.
Approximate dimensions are 27 cm height, 23 cm length and 18.5 cm base diameter.
