16th (Queens) Lancers Early Victorian Silver Table Snuff Box. The Cover Engraved with Lancers on Horseback & the Sides with Military Trophies. The interior gilded with a compartment divider.

The interior of the cover with a presentation inscription: 'Presented to the Officers by Cornet Dottin Maycock, 16th (Queens) Lancers, 15 june 1842'.

The 16th (Queens) Lancers were a cavalry regiment of the British Army, first raised in 1759. They saw action during the Seven Years War, American Revolutionary War, Peninsular War and the Battle of Waterloo. During the period of the presentation of this snuff box, the Regiment saw action in Afghanistan and India. During the First World War the Regiment served on the Western Front, receiving numerous battle honours.

Dottin Maycock (1816 - 1879) was born in Barbados and studied at Codrington College. In 1836 he commenced studies at Trinity College, Cambridge University and in 1839 joined the 16th Lancers as a Cornet. In 1848 he was serving as a Lieutenant in the 36th Foot and in 1853 as a Captain in the 2nd Middlesex Militia. His last service was a Lieutenant Colonel from 1874 until 1879. He lived at Foxton Lodge, Foxton, Market Harborough.

In good condition with no significant dents, creases, or repair. Age related fading to the engraved detail. Museum collection number engraved to the underside of the base. One crease to the far left side of the rear, above the hinge. Some light pressure marks and moderate surface wear.
