19th Century Charles James Fox Death Medal Snuff Box. This medal was issued in 1806 and designed by Peter Wyon.
Charles James Fox (1749 - 1806) was a radical Whig politician who opposed the monarch. He was Foreign Secretary in Rockingham's short-lived government of 1782 and was Secretary of State in the Duke of Portland's government of 1783-84. He supported the French Revolution in 1789, but by 1804 was instrumental in bringing down the government of Addington who had failed either to preserve the peace or to prepare for Napoleon's threat of invasion.
In very good condition with moderate surface wear commensurate with age. There is a slight indentation to one side of the obverse of the medal. Age related wear to the medal lettering definition.
