George Stephenson, Railway Engineer, 19th Century Bronze Portrait Profile Plaque. Of circular form and in relief. 

George Stephenson (1781 - 1848) was a civil engineer, known as the Father of the Railways. The 'Stephenson Gauge' is the gauge used by most railways worldwide. Together with his son, Robert, Locomotion 1 was the first steam locomotive to carry passengers on a public line in 1825 on the Stockton & Darlington Line. He also built the first inter-city railway line to use locomotives, the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, which opened in 1830. 

In excellent order with a fine patina and roughly cast edge.
