Georgian, Cased Set of Four Old Sheffield Plate Armorial Sauce Tureens & Covers, circa 1810. The tureens are of rectangular form with gadrooned edges. Raised on leaf work scrolled feet. The covers with an engraved armorial to each side. Rolled over silver edges to the bases and covers. Twin reeded handles. The naturalistic loop handles to the covers are not removable. The covers and bases are marked with dots from one until four, to identify which cover matches which base.

The marital arms of Robertson & Ross commemorate the marriage of Francis Robertson & Laurentia Dorothea Ross. Francis was Lord of the Manor of Chilcote in Derbyshire (now in Leicestershire).  Note the man in chains at the bottom of the larger armorial. This was granted to the Chief of the Robertson clan for assisting in the apprehension of the accomplices of the murder of King James I. A Heraldry report accompanies this item.

In excellent condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. Free of dents, creases and splits. Covers not quite sitting fully flush with the bases.
