Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate Cup & Cover, circa 1780 - 1810. A very rare object to find in Old Sheffield Plate. The cup is of plain circular form, raised on a spreading circular and pedestal foot, with beaded and engraved detail. The reeded twin handles emerging from foliate sockets, with central leaf detail. The hand raised and domed cover with urnular finial and beaded detail.
In excellent original conditon. The item has not been replated and has had no engravings removed. Areas of copper bleed to the handles, foot, rims and raised part of the cover. Traces of a streak/stain to one side of the cup (picture 4). Free of dents, creases, splits and repairs.
Approximate weight is 1.62 kilos.
Approximate dimensions are 28 cm handle to handle length, 24 cm height and 15.5 cm cup diameter.
