Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate Dome. Armorial for Colonel William Blair, East India Company.
Of circular form with a tinned interior and dating to circa 1810. The armorial within a rubbed in silver oval. The top of the dome with part fluted detail and a fixed loop reeded handle. Gadrooned and reeded detail to the lower section. Of small size to act as a dish, or plate, cover.
The armorial commemorates the 1768 marriage of Colonel William Blair and Jane Mackenzie. Colonel Blair served in the Honourable East India Company Service and was the Governor of Chunar, Uttar Pradesh, India. A heraldry report accompanies this item.
In excellent condition with moderate surface wear commensurate with age. The item still retains its original silver layer.
