Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate Warming Dish, circa 1790 - 1810. Most likely used for bacon, eggs or toasted cheese (with inserts). The turned wooden handle unscrews and hot water can be poured into a reservoir that would then keep the contents warm. Of rectangular form with gadrooned decoration, raised on ball feet with a domed cover. The inner dish can be removed, showing the hot water reservoir underneath. Features rolled over silver edges.

In excellent order with light surface wear, commensurate with age. Small areas of copper bleed around the hinge area and wear to this area, with two small repair plates either side. Some rust to the unsilvered base.

Approximate weight is 1.139 kilos.

Approximate dimensions are 23.5 cm length, 32.5 cm width (including handle), 16 cm width (dish only) and 12.5 cm height.
