Georgian, George III period, pair of Old Sheffield Plate armorial entree dishes and covers. Circa 1790 - 1810. Of incurved cushion form with loop handles and reeded borders.
The arms and crest of Welby of Denton Hall, Lincolnshire, quartering Hutchens with Cope in pretence. Sir William Earle Welby M.P. of Denton Hall married Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Robert Cope of Spondon in 1773. Welby was created a baronet in 1801.
In very good order with moderate to high surface wear and light scratches commensurate with age and their use as serving dishes. Some minor copper bleed and higher wear to the underside of the bases.
