Georgian, George III, Silver Vegetable Tureens & Covers on Old Sheffield Plate Warming Stands. Of plain circular form with the crest of a gazelle or antelope to each cover. The tureen dishes have heavily gadrooned borders and twin reeded handles. The covers with gadrooned detail surrounding the loop handles of acanthus capped naturalsitic form. The covers are marked 1 and 2, as are the handles. One tureen has 2 dots, indicating that the number 2 cover fits it.
The Old Sheffield Plate warming stands are raised on four feet and have twin cast handles. The top plate lifts off to reveal a tinned reservoir which can be filled with hot water.
Each tureen and cover is hallmarked for London 1793 by Paul Storr. The date letter r covered the period May 1792 to May 1793. Paul Storr had entered his frst mark at the Goldsmiths' Company in partnership with William Frisbee in May of 1792 and his first marks on his own account on 12th January 1793. One tureen is marked STORR & MORTIMER to the underside. The handles to the covers are unmarked.
In very good order. There is wear and light pressure marks to the pair of Old Sheffield Plate warming stands. The feet are adjustable. The silver tureens and their covers are in excellent order with one light pressure mark where the divider meets the body of the tureen. Light to moderate surface wear commensurate with age and for their use as serving dishes. Hallmarks are quite rubbed but legible, although the makers mark on one tureen base is partially obscured. All hallmarks have been photographed.
