Georgian, George IV, Set of Six Silver Double Struck Kings Pattern Regimental Forks. These are probably 1st course, dessert or fruit forks.
Each fork is marked with the insignia of The 49th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) (Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot. This was a line infantry regiment of the British Army, raised in 1743. In 1828 the Regiment was posted to India for 15 years. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 66th Regiment of Foot to form the Princess Charlotte of Wales's in 1881.
Each fork is hallmarked for London 1828 by William Chawner II. The maker's marks are very rubbed and only readable on two of the forks.
In very good condition with moderate to high wear commensurate with their use as cutlery. Regimental cutlery would have been used over many years and there is wear to the tines.
Approximate weight of all six forks is 318 grams or 10.2 troy ounces.
Approximate dimensions of one fork are 16 cm length and 2.2 cm tine width.
